The
Lazer Travel Soccer Program has teams in most age groups. In most
cases the regular season travel time commitment is virtually the
same from U9 and above since HFG Rec. participates in the Northern
Harford District Soccer League. At the older age groups HFG has
fewer teams so they combine schedules with other Rec. programs of
similar size. Lazer practice begins for the outdoor season July
1st for most teams and now continues past November with indoor
soccer at various facilities in the area. Games are played during
the regular season on Saturday, Sunday or both depending on the
team and level but all during the afternoon hours. Various
tournaments are held throughout the area typically in late August,
Columbus Weekend and mid to late November.
If my child makes a travel team, does he/she have to play
recreation soccer for HFG?
No, but your child must register for HFG Rec Soccer during the
normal registration times in order to tryout for the Lazers. If
they make a Lazers Travel Team and are not playing HFG Rec Soccer,
then a portion of their registration fee is moved to the
appropriate travel team budget.
Does my child have to tryout for the Lazer Program?
Yes, all team tryouts cannot begin before June 1st as governed by
the Harford County Parks and Rec Department. The Lazers will hold
tryouts for every team in early June.
Is there a difference between Rec Soccer and Travel Soccer?
Yes, Rec soccer is designed to be a development program with all
teams of equal caliber. The focus is to have each child receive
equal playing time in various positions to increase their soccer
skill. The Lazer Travel Program is designed to take the best
soccer players at any age level and put them all on the same team.
This advanced team gets certified coaches in many age groups who
understand the game at a higher level and can advance existing
soccer skills. To date, 2007 was the most successful year for the
Lazer program with many age groups placing second or higher in
their travel leagues and produced multiple tournament champions.
How much will it cost for my child to play travel soccer?
Travel soccer has incremental expenses that vary by team depending
on the travel league, number of tournaments during the season and
uniform needs. The program is working on several fund raisers for
2008 to offset these expenses but normal travel dues range from
$150 - $250 per child. Some teams have acquired team sponsors to
reduce everyone's commitment.
